My friend
Mon is in town! Before I get into the meat of this post, let me give you a little context about me & Mon's friendship; we were both on the Editorial Board of
Malate Literary Folio together a couple of years ago--she was the Photo Editor while I was the Prose Editor. We've spent a million nights together in a layout room being bored out of our minds. I also have been the prey of a couple of her photography experiments--I once almost died (I swear) trying to stay under water in a bathtub in the layout room while Mon turned off the lights and shot photos of me by flashlight. :)) I also let her scan my face once, back when I still had long, long hair.
The thing I love about hanging out with Mon is that she's one of the most honest people that I know. We laugh about old times and tell each other what's been going on in our lives with 0% inhibition. We can tell things the way they are--whether it comes off as lude or insane or mean doesn't really matter. She's also one of the few people I know who understands the balance between apathy and concern; she's never going to coddle you but she always shows genuine concern for your well-being. :)
This is Mon's scanned-photo thing of my face back when I had long, long hair.
Anyway, Mon moved to the States a little over a year ago if I'm not mistaken and I'm so thrilled that she's visiting. :) We spent most of the afternoon together walking around, exchanging stories and trying things on at different stores. And the great thing about today was that we met up old school style--no cellphones, no texts, just a pre-arranged time and place. :)
We met up at good old Starbucks and went semi-window shopping, meaning we tried things on that we couldn't afford just for fun. :)) Such a fun time, though. And doing that makes shopping so much easier--I now have a hit list of things to save up for. Photos below! :)
Mon & I--that top was perfect. I also loved this dress which she picked out for me but then the thought--where will I wear this to? First thing that came to mind was a wedding but I realized it would have to be my own wedding since it's white. :))
After a just-right lunch at Shakey's we walked around a bit before going our separate ways. :) Definitely a day well-spent. I love you, Mon! :)
I'm currently at the Coffee Bean in Town waiting for Joy, Trish & Marz--we're having an Awkward Screening/ cocktail party tonight. :D Hope everyone has a goodweekend! TGIF!
