I don't think I've ever properly imparted on this blog exactly how much I hate flying. I was always an anxious kid and I remember covering my ears during take off of every flight I'd ever been on. It's just never a nice feeling, that pit forming in the bottom of your stomach and the engine rumbling like it's going to eat you--or even worse, crash. Jeez.
Yesterday was no exception. If anything, my already jumpy self was additionally unnerved because a) I was going alone and b) the only thing I had to distract me was reading about Cersei Lannister and her dreams of killing well, everyone--being 38,000 feet in the air isn't exactly helped by the thought of someone toying with the idea of murder. Also, the ASEAN flights aren't big airplanes--which is, I feel the only thing that made flying bearable before last night--they're just airbuses, which means you can feel every jostle and bump; I had to buy a "sleeping" kit because for some reason, clutching a cheap, inflatable pillow that might float in case we had to "land in water" or whatever seemed to comfort me.
But well, an almost-heartattack or two later and I got here! I am quite proud of myself, indeed. I have yet to upload or take any photos but Ho Chi Minh is a beautiful city--at least the bit of it I saw last night. I'm heading out on an adventure with my sister's friend, Lyra (Hi!) today--we're checking out street market finds. My sister is currently in Hanoi and is flying in at midnight tonight; I'm super excited to see her!
I hope you guys are all having a good Friday! :D As mentioned, I haven't had the chance to take any photos, yet so I'll leave you with this one from Cebu Pacific, just to lend you a window into my worst nightmare (which I will be facing again this Monday morning).
*All my anxiety and paranoia aside though, Cebu Pac is a really good airline--they had games and great food and did everything they could to keep us relaxed. Plus they'd update us about things like the weather and the time and what we were flying over. :)
