Alright. So this might seem a little bit trivial to write about but hey--the amount of comfort that Vicks Vaporub has lent me definitely merits an entry, no matter how un-glamorous it might be. I've been sick the past few days and my nose has been alternately stuffy and runny.
The things that humid weather will do to you, really. It's a wonder we're all still alive--I tried everything: salabat (ginger tea), coffee (okay, not that I expected this to work, but a girl can dream), orange juice, melon juice, pineapple juice, nothing worked. I suppose this type of cold is something that you just have to wait out. The problem with waiting something out is that you have to live with the discomforts of that situation--breathing difficulty, a voice that makes me sound like someone on steroids and those little wounds on the side of my nose. In my case, this causes bouts of insomnia (I'm a light sleeper even on good days) which causes fatigue which makes me get even sicker.
I may however, just be convinced that good things come to those who wait: while trying to deal with sick-insomnia last night, I found a tub of Vicks Vaporub in my parents room and being reminded of all those times when as a child, I would be up all night coughing and my nanny (yeah, yeah please no more bourgeois jokes) would rub Vicks on my back, the menthol soothing my burning throat and eventually sending me to sleep. And so last night, I made like my 6-year-old self and applied a little bit under my nose, on my temples and on my neck (that awkward throat area), wrapped myself in a light blanket and slept like a baby. :)
I woke up at around 7:00 am today, feeling refreshed. I still have a bit of a cold and my voice sounds hilarious but I am definitely feeling better. Hopefully I'll be back in tip-top shape within the week. <33 Have a great Tuesday everyone!
