Project: Room (Found Objects Project)

So, I've been away from this blog for--I'm not going to lie--more than a couple of days because between school, writing, exercising, reading and trying to remain a social being there just hasn't been a lot of time. (I've also had one too many Duck Dynasty marathons, I will admit.) But I'm back on today because I thought I'd share a little project that I've been working on: my room.

For the most part, my idea of "cleaning my room" is making it so that I can find whatever I wanna find, ASAP: which means it's all on the part of the bed that I don't sleep on. But yesterday I figured hey, I'm growing up and I suppose it's time to make my room somewhere that I can get serious work (and working out) done, because there's just so much to do and I can't afford the inefficiency of living like a hoarder anymore. So I cleaned stuff up, moved shit around and hung up a lot of art work and found objects. The only things that I bought were the wall hooks from Daiso and mounting tape from Ace Hardware. :)
The white towel on the right-hand side of the photo above is where the door is (the towel is hanging on the knob). I decided to put the coffee table/photo pinboard right by the door so if I'm going, I can grab whatever books I need from the coffee table and if I'm getting in from a busy day, I can get a boost of happy energy from the old photos and the bright painting.
This is the view from the door/photo pinboard area. Before yesterday's cleaning time, the middle part of my room was occupied by the coffee table so I didn't ever work out in my room. Now I can work out (see the yoga mat beside the bed?) and study and do pretty much anything I want here.
As I mentioned, this is a Found Objects project, so I decided to use a lot of old things like broken jewelry, extra book covers and things as decoration. :) Click below to see the wall art, etc. in detail!

On the wall opposite the bed, I decided to hang up a lot of art done by my friends as well as old things given to me as gifts. Below that is a tiny rack with my CDs and the bags that I use the most often (also, the bags that I like looking at the most, so the decision to put them here was both for decorative and practical purposes).
Some of the old, gifted objects are Trizha's lazer eyes calling card (I love how the sky-blue fills in the "lazer eyes" space), my Hollys Special Someone card and a wooden bookmark from Oman that an old friend/lover gave me years and years ago.
I also decided to frame one of the postcards I bought from my friend Murphy (who makes the most amazing postcards), because it just went perfectly with the wall. On a hook that I had installed, I put beautiful, hanging things that are (sadly) broken: a chain from a broken bag, a keychain from Hair Works (a parlor I'm not sure still exists) and a turqouise bracelet that Keav bought me when we just started going out (the lock broke off while I was in transit).

I also thought that it would be important to pay tribute to a couple of my favorite musical artists since this wall is the one against which my CDs rest against so I mounted the inlay of The Doors' greatest hits CD (a gift from another ex-love interest who turns out, was good for just this CD), an old photo of Rooney, The Gaslight Anthem's American Slang in-lay and the Tegan & Sara Heartthrob in-lay/poster. :)
I also put up Trizha's Bubblegum Ball Girl poster + the second cover of Paperweight, because the colors go so well with everything. Beside that, I decided to finally put my packaging hoarding to good use and mount the beautiful perfume boxes (Burberry Brit & Lacoste Pour Femme)--sadly, I wasn't able to keep my Chanel and Escada boxes, which would've gone perfectly with this too. My favorite bit on this wall is probably the wooden L'occitane lid which is from a box of soaps and fragrances. :)
To the right of that is the area I showed you guys earlier (in front of the door). This is probably the messiest part of the room. The curtains are curtains that I dyed myself, too--hence the bloody punch color. To the left of this is the vanity area, which is surrounded by two walls.
On the first wall, I decided to hang our MoarBooks BLTX poster from last December along with a couple of things my friends have gotten me from their travels abroad: a letter opener from Trizha when she went to China, a TinTin poster/plaque from my friend Net when she came home from either Shanghai or France (gah I can't remember) and a postcard from when my friend Ron got back from Japan. Under that, I decided to put the Coffee Bean take out menu because on days when I have class at 8, I end up eating breakfast at CBLT a lot so it'd be nice to know what I want while getting ready. :) And off to the right of that is just a beanie that my aunt got me from when she got home from LA.
Up on the opposite wall is a hooj frame that contains artcards by my friend Joelle and photos by my friend Marz along with a cut-out of Dear City by Conchitina Cruz and some real pretty bookmarks from Papemelroti. :) Beside that are some necklaces that are pretty but that don't work on me, for one reason or another (too long, too short, broken clasp).
Beside the vanity is also my perfume box collection (which Spock is guarding heehee). It's important to keep perfume stored somewhere away from sunlight so I keep them in this kitty cat box. :) These are Burberry Brit, Lancome Tresor In Love, Chanel Coco Madmoiselle, Lacoste Pour Femme and Escada's Taj Sunset (the bottle broke--it's in the tiny green spritzer).
On this table are also: a jewelry box in the shape of a flower that I've had since I was 9, my SATC DVDs, a hippo piggy bank (my sister's) and as I mentioned, Spock.
Beside this is my study table. Pretty basic. On the table: laptop, school work, jug of water. Beside that: cables, headphones, a hairdryer.

After that is the bed: again, pretty basic. :)) Just my bed, littered with earphones, bags, pillows and the bread stuffed toy Keav got me for my birthday. Also, I need to apologize for these photos: the sunlight in my room is pretty damn intense this time of day.
And finally, perpendicular to the bed is the closet area (my room is U-shaped, as you can see in the first photos). I put up a couple of hooks to hang scarves, hats, shoulder bags and dresses/robes that are too long to properly fit in my closet. :)
Aaaand that's it! :) If you guys've done a room renovation type thing too, please link it in a comment below. I'd love to check it out!

  1. I FRIGGIN' LOVE WHAT YOU'VE DONE TO YOUR ROOM. I totally envy you because I have yet to experience a point in my life where I have a bedroom all to myself.
Also, HURRAH art cards! :D I appreciate your dyed curtains btw. XD

  2. I wish I had my own room again. :( Sharing sucks ass when you're pretty much grown-up and your room mate is a teenager.
