I recently got two books from two authors that I'd gotten obsessed about in a very short period of time. These books are Teju Cole's Open City and Gillian Flynn's Dark Places.
The first book is Dark Places by Gillian Flynn--I'd gotten obsessed with Gillian's work after reading part of her book Gone Girl and then an essay she put up on her site. Sadly, I found out that Gone Girl wasn't available here yet so I ordered it online and headed out to the bookstore to see which of her older releases were here, to keep me pacified in the mean time. And yeah. I was lucky enough to stumble upon the bookstore's last copy of the first edition printing of her novel Dark Places. I'm around 30 pages in and it's already so well-written and hilarious/creepy that I'm pretty sure I know what I'll be doing for the rest of the afternoon.
The second book is Teju Cole's Open City. I was browsing through Amazon the other week (thankfully after I'd purchased something already so I didn't have any money to get this on there) and read a couple of reviews on this book--I read book reviews a lot because I'm careful about the money I spend on books since they cost a lot and I read a lot. One of them said that this book was about dislocation and history and that was enough to send me on an obsessive book-hunt through all the bookstores I could get to without spending for toll. But yay, I got the last copy they had available as well which made me extremely happy. :D I'm about five pages into this and so far it's very interesting. What have ya'll been reading? :)
