Brightside Entry | It Will Change Your Life

That's the line Sam (Natalie Portman) tells Andrew Largeman (Zach Braff) in Garden State when she lets him listen to this song, New Slang by The Shins. And I think she was right. This song did change my life although not in a big, I'm-now-a-multi-millionare way. It just provided a lot of clarity when I was in a very tumultuous period in my life. :) This is one of the few songs I've been listening to since 2005 and just never gets old.
So today (obviously, with that intro) I thought I'd do a post on music and music-listening habits. I find that the only thing that makes commuting bearable is music so I do a lot of my listening on buses and jeeps or while walking. But also, I do a lot of listening late at night (while staring up into the ceiling or occasionally, cracking open a bottle of wine and slow dancing with myself--yes, call me a hipster I would not deny it) and when I'm writing. I can't seem to concentrate when things are too quiet. And I've been very curious about this because my childhood bestfriend Peluchi had this theory that music is mostly listened to while doing something else--writing, surfing the net, driving, looking at pictures--as opposed to just listening to it. So yeah. I'd love to know about your music-listening habits too.
While I have a more practical pair of earphones (clip-on buds) for commuting--because I'm not that hipster and because they take up too much space in my bag--I keep this huge pair at home for more intensive listening. I bought these for really cheap at National Bookstore two Christmases ago (yeah it lasted longer than I expected) and taped over the skulls with these kooky stickers Trizha gave me--both because I like the stickers and skulls don't really seem to be my style. xD
For the most part, I use my phone for listening (because I don't have a radio anymore and my laptop gets really slow when I play music, which is odd because it doesn't do that with videos). And I like to make Playlists based on the occasion--so far I have Bus, Sleep, Uber Sleep, Rainy, & Nice Rainy. How do you organize/listen to music you love? :) Let me know below!

  1. Just to let you know, I really love your music posts. You should have more of these. XD I've yet to watch Garden State, but I just listened to your YouTube link and I think you've just introduced me to a new favourite.

I'm surprised your headphones lasted that long, too. Normally my cheaper ones do not last me more than 3 months, but that's probably because I tend to abuse them by bringing them with me everywhere. (I've taken to using earphones lately as it's more portable.)

Like you, I also mostly use my phone for listening. This is due to me not having an iPod/iTouch/iPhone and how I've got this trauma of breaking my laptop's speakers as I did with my old one.

I think using your Android phone (or whatever you've got) is just as good as using an iTouch—it's more practical to have only one gadget for different purposes, after all. Besides, having one more gadget to bring around with you means one more gadget to worry about.

I don't make playlists based on occasions, although I do like making them for people (we talked about this aspect of our personalities lol) and I love the idea of knowing that someone will be enjoying the playlist you're making. I'd make one for you, but your music is more hipster than mine lol (My playlist mostly consists of Japanese bands, video games and anime soundtrack). XD

This is a question I typically only ask in forums, but since you blog you can answer this here or in another post (but don't feel obliged to :D). If you were to film your own biopic and choose your own soundtrack, what songs would be in your list? What would be your theme song?

    1. Hey, Lorri! :D Sorry it took me so long to reply to this. It (for some reason) got sent into the Spam folder and I had to fish it out. :) And I'm so glad you liked New Slang!!!

Yeah, I'm pretty surprised too. Usually it's pretty short-term with headphones/earphones in general, for me.

And about Gadget conservation--YESSSS! I usually am very forgetful as well so I like having as few things to carry as possible! HAHHAHA Yeah I love making playlists for people too. Let's make a couple for each other. :) I like japanese music too! Hahaha

And yes, definitely. I will do this tag. :D
